Felicia Leffall
About
Felicia Leffall started her business as a means to help support her family in an area where jobs were limited. A request to help a friend with her wedding, turned out to be the spark that ignited a one stop shop event planning service. Early on, it became prevalent that there was a high demand for weddings, but limited resources of equipment and décor. A local business owner shared her knowledge of wholesale dealers in the area. With this blessing, Felicia quickly began to provide wedding, reception, decorating and catering services.
After a short stent away from her hometown, Felicia moved back to Dallas. She took on regular employment, but continued to coordinate special events throughout the metroplex. Felicia learned that there was a strong need for event planners, but the clientele struggled with the ability to pay the costs. This wasn’t a problem for Felicia. God had blessed her with the training, her own equipment and access to various other services. These blessings allowed her to provide event planning services at a fraction of the costs charged in other communities. Therefore, there was no need to advertise. Word of mouth referrals kept Felicia’s calendar full. Felicia found joy and peace in knowing she played a key part in her client’s special occasions, at a feasible cost. That feeling was priceless!
During this party of the journey, African Americans were having difficulty locating jobs. Unemployment was high and eligible jobs were few. You could not land a job without experience. And you could not get experience without a job. So, who is going to hire our children? Felicia led the charge and provided jobs for her three children, their friends, and many other teens within the community. Felicia had the clientele and the resources to ensure that all of her workers learned valuable of a dollar, customer service skills, guest relations, dependability and accountability. These attributes were proudly added to their resumes.
Felicia thanked God daily for allowing her to broaden her skills. The religious community encircled Felicia and prayed God’s blessing upon her new role as the first African American female General Manager for the nationally branded hotel. A million dollars in catering sales was achieved. Profit margins were met. A sense of accomplishments was felt. So, after ten years in the hotel industry, Felicia walked away with a keen sense of sales strategizing, profit & loss analyzation, customer service skills, menu construction and corporate event planning. Felicia couldn’t keep her experiences to herself, while other businesses were still trying to figure out the blueprint. When one rise, we have a civic duty to help someone else.
Many households demand two incomes and a side business to make ends meet. So much so that new business owners hastily start a new business without the proper knowledge or tools necessary to succeed. Embracing her natural desire to educate and nurture, Felicia reinvented herself. Felicia Leffall’s Events was birthed. Felicia coaches small businesses on how to achieve generational wealth, create a base of income for life after retirement and increase their revenues. Twenty-four years later, Felicia Leffall’s opinion still matters. Her two cents still appreciated.
